The Perks of Being a Bakery and a Cafe'.. Marciano's.

It's my first time to visit the newly-opened Fairview Terraces and I was amazed. Although most of the shops are not open yet the current selection of stores is already very nice. My family and I enjoyed window shopping and walking around especially because it is not very crowded. Then we got to the part where we all are very hungry and so we went to the nearest restaurant we could find... We're feeling like food dare devils today!! And guess where we found ourselves?? Marciano's Cafe' and Bakery. As first-timers we ordered the following...  Garlic Sticks. Not your usual garlic bread. It seemed like the bread is puffed up so it is crunchy on the outside but hollow and a bit of soft in the middle. Tastes good with both the balsamic and the tomato concasse sauce. Four Seasons Pizza. Shrimp and Sprouts/ Salami/ Mushroom/ Cheese. Two thumbs-up!!!! An anonymous decision... we really loved this! The thin crust is seasoned not bland, thus it comes to my top p

Burp... Happy Father's Day!! #Kanin Club

I was a bit hesitant to eat at Kanin Club because of the loooong list waiting to be seated. Mom, however, insisted. Despite of us being number 23, we still waited... And I had no regrets! except for my tummy which is complaining right now!! It can't breathe anymore!! Well, I can't blame it... We ordered five dishes. First of which is our appetizer- Green mango salad with salted egg! Smells like what we used to make in the province!! The cilantro is perfect with it. We tried to eat it tiny portions at a time because we like it as accompaniment to fried fish, which we ordered next... Binukadkad na Tilapia. As the name implies, the deep fried tilapia is "binukadkad" meaning "fully opened" like a rose blossom does when it is in full bloom. This made the presentation perfect, not your usual deep fried whole fish just sitting on the plate. The sauce, of course, made from vinegar, soy sauce and maybe a hint of sugar complemented the tilapia v

It's All About Salad! ;)

I don't know why I'm totally into discussing salads with you today. Maybe I'm craving for one??? But anyway the question is this: Do we have a lot of things to learn about salad? Oh yes, we do buddy! This blog will give you basic know-how about one topic- SALAD. First things first... Types of Salad. There are three: Simple salad, Composed salad and Salad plates. Simple Salad- composed of one type of salad green:  it can either be a leaf lettuce salad (refer to the different types of salad greens below. there's at least ten you know!), raw or cooked vegetable salad, sprout salad or legume salad  Composed Salad- various combination of salad ingredients such as leafy greens, raw and cooked vegetables, sprouts, legumes, rice or pasta and garnish. It is supposed to be a meal in itself. An example would be tuna nicois e.  Salad Plates- a variety of dressed salads arranged like a bouquet : mixed green salad, raw and cooked vegetable salads, mushroom salads, legum

Philippine Independence Day Special: Salad Made from Pako (Fern) and Arosep/Lato (Seaweed)

Most of the time when it comes to making salad or ordering salad, we are not very interested as to where it came from. Most of us think that it is just pieces of leaves tossed in your choice of vinaigrette or dressing. All we are concerned about is that:  it is healthy (depends on how much dressing you put into it and the ingredients of that dressing... if it is full of mayonnaise then it's not as healthy as you think, my dear!) it cools us down (especially during a hot summer day where it is very nice to eat fresh salad cooled down in the fridge) it tastes divine (depending on your taste preference- the combination of ingredients and its special dressing/vinaigrette). But really... these salads have an origin. Just look at the way of preparation as well as the ingredients feautured in that salad- you will know! From Waldorf Salad of England to the Caesar Salad of Mexico* down to the Raita of India and the Greek salad of... obviously, Greece! But wait... how about our

The Insider: Working on a Cruise Ship

Have you ever wondered what it is like to work in one of the biggest cruise ships in the world? Well let me tell you a story... of a girl who dreamt of traveling the world and got the biggest gift of her life when she got her dream job in a cruise ship traveling to Europe and the United States... That girl was me. Well it all started with hard work, sprinkled with a bit of luck here and there... I am a Bachelors degree holder in Business Management who had a life-long dream of having her own restaurant. This is the reason why after graduation I continued to study and practice culinary arts. After graduating with honors in one of the culinary schools here in Manila, I got lucky enough to be accepted for a whole year of culinary apprenticeship in a 5-star, 5-diamond hotel nestled amidst the Colorado Rockies. Coming back to the Philippines, working in a cruise ship seemed like the next step to go and so I decided to apply. I will no longer bother you with the how's and when's
